Friday Giants – “Something Worth Saving”

I think we all have a soft spot in our hearts for post-hardcore music, right? Is that a thing? Anyway, I definitely do. It makes me feel nostalgic for the glorious 2012 Warped Tour lineup. There will always be a place in my playlists for the music of my late teens, but today… we have a new addition. Friday Giants, welcome to the club.

Five short songs but endless energy, holy smokes. I think “Something Worth Saving” is my favourite so far. Its working title during recording was “Paraunderstein”, named for the influences it had from Paramore, Underoath, and Silverstein which… is entirely accurate. “Flatline” is about Chester Bennington which adds an extra layer for me personally, but the whole collection is so strong. It’s even wilder once you hear the story behind it all.

So they started out as a pop punk band. They played Warped Tour and Bunbury Fest, everything’s looking great. They make plans to record this EP and then boom, the lead singer leaves the band. So Zac Taylor steps out from behind the bass and takes on lead vocals. They change their sound. And honestly, the results have been incredible. I think this sound fits them so much better, and the new lineup arrangement works perfectly. Just goes to show that everything really does happen for a reason. Zac, Chuck, and Logan have put together a truly solid EP.

The lovely Rebecca Potzner is managing these guys and it always makes me so happy to see my friends doing such cool things. You can read more about the band & more music on her website BANDED. Keep an eye on their website for any upcoming tour dates too!
